One of the most important elements of our existence is our past. Both our personal past experiences and our cultural history can shape our views of the world. By better understanding history through not only our personal viewpoint, but by also seeking out the perspective and experiences of others we are able to develop a more holistic view of the world. However, history has long been written off by students as dates and facts that bear no relevance to their own lives. The primary issue in social studies education today is that we are not teaching the past in a way that is relatable to our students. We often neglect to help students build relevant connections to the past. In this presentation, teachers will learn how to use educational technology tools to help bring history alive as a relevant subject matter for all students. By reexamining how we teach history, we can help students make connections to the past and engage in self discovery. With the right edtech tools, you can allow your students to become the historical storyteller and truly illustrate how history has impacted all of us in today’s world.
